About

A vibrant society for those interested in early Christian and Jewish history

The Society for the Study of Early Christianity (SSEC) is a Sydney based, non-profit society established by Macquarie University in 1987.

SSEC actively promotes scholarship in New Testament, early Jewish and Christian history, and related fields. Through our website, newsletter and annual conferences we bring together scholars with an active interest in the ancient world.

Who are we?

SSEC is an international society that exists to promote research into the history of Early Christianity and Judaism. The activities of our vibrant community are varied and include: regular informative meetings, first-rate annual conferences, a fellowship program, a newsletter, and raising funds to support cutting edge scholarship, and more.

Bringing Scholars and Students together

The Society for the Study of Early Christianity is dedicated to promoting Christian and Jewish studies in a non-theological manner.

SSEC brings together leading academics, both at Macquarie University and from around the world, PhD candidates working in the history of Early Christianity and Jewish studies and interested non-academics to explore, investigate, and participate in this growing field.
